Products That Contain Microplastics
18 of the 69 products we have assessed contain a synthetic polymer in the contact surface or the ingredients.
Credible evidence identifies a particle source or release pathway. This describes concern within our scope, not a proven health effect.
We publish them for the same reason we publish the rest: a list that names only what we recommend is not a list of what we found.
This is not everything we stop short of recommending. A further 13 products are rated "Lower concern, caveats" — the evidence leans that way, but we could not confirm it — and they are listed under that verdict in browse.
Water Bottles
3 products-
CamelBak Eddy+ 750ml
CamelBak · Water Bottles
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
The CamelBak Eddy+ bottle body is Tritan copolyester. Tritan is BPA-free and more chemically stable than polycarbonate, but it is still a plastic polymer, and it forms the whole surface the water sits against between refills. Published data on how much Tritan sheds under repeated washing, scratching and knocks is limited, so the quantity is uncertain even though the material is not. For a drinking surface with no plastic in contact with the water, consider stainless steel or glass.
- Tritan copolyester
- polypropylene lid
- silicone bite valve

Sistema Twist 'n' Sip 620ml
Sistema · Water Bottles
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
The Sistema Twist 'n' Sip is made entirely from polypropylene plastic. Research indicates that polypropylene containers can shed microplastic particles, particularly with repeated use, washing, and temperature changes. Consider a stainless steel or glass alternative.
- polypropylene body
- polypropylene lid
- silicone seal

Nalgene Sustain Wide Mouth 1L
Nalgene · Water Bottles
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
The Nalgene Sustain uses Tritan Renew, made with 50% certified recycled content. Tritan is BPA-free and more chemically stable than polycarbonate, but it remains a plastic polymer and it forms the entire liquid-contact surface of the bottle. Long-term shedding data for Tritan under repeated use, hot washing and abrasion is limited, so the amount released is unclear. For a drinking surface with no plastic in contact with the water, consider stainless steel or glass.
- Tritan Renew copolyester
- polypropylene lid

Lenor Fabric Conditioner Spring Awakening
Lenor · Cleaning Products
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
Based on P&G's own published description, Lenor is built around "perfume microcapsule technology" — millions of polymer capsules that embed in fabric and break open to release scent over time. The EU microplastic restriction explicitly covers fragrance encapsulation and phases it out by October 2029. These are intentionally added synthetic polymer particles, which is why this product is rated as containing microplastics. Consider fragrance-free plant-based alternatives.
- cationic surfactants
- fragrance microcapsules
- silicone compounds

Babycup Sippeco Mini Open Cups (Set of 4)
Babycup · Baby Items
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
Babycup Sippeco Mini Open Cups (formerly First Cups) are designed for baby-led weaning. Babycup states the cups are made from polypropylene, BPA-free and phthalate-free, and made in Britain; the brand does not claim Tritan. Either way the drinking surface is plastic held in direct mouth contact, and polypropylene is a recognised source of microplastic shedding, particularly after dishwasher and steriliser cycles. The open-cup design still avoids the spouted sippy cup, which is a separate benefit for oral development. For a plastic-free drinking surface, consider a glass or stainless steel beaker.
- polypropylene
- BPA-free
- phthalate-free

Dr Brown's Options+ Anti-Colic Bottle 270ml
Dr Brown's · Baby Items
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
The Dr Brown's Options+ bottle is made from polypropylene plastic with an internal anti-colic vent system also made from polypropylene. Research indicates PP baby bottles can release microplastic particles during sterilisation and formula preparation. Dr Brown's does offer a glass version as an alternative.

Joseph Joseph Nest Boards Chopping Board Set
Joseph Joseph · Kitchenware
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
The Joseph Joseph Nest boards are made from polypropylene plastic. Research has shown that plastic chopping boards can generate microplastic particles when knives score the surface during food preparation. Consider wood or wood fibre composite alternatives.
- polypropylene
- TPE non-slip feet
-
Tefal Comfort Max Frying Pan 26cm
Tefal · Kitchenware
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
The Tefal Comfort Max uses a PTFE (Teflon) non-stick coating, which is a synthetic fluoropolymer. Research published in Science of the Total Environment found that damaged non-stick coatings can release microplastic and nanoplastic particles. Consider cast iron or stainless steel alternatives.
- stainless steel body
- PTFE non-stick coating
- bakelite handle

Brabantia Make & Take Lunch Box Large
Brabantia · Kitchenware
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
Based on Brabantia's own specification, the Make & Take lunch box linked here is the plastic version — Brabantia lists the material simply as plastic — so food sits directly against a plastic surface. Brabantia also sells a stainless steel Make & Take box; if you want a steel food-contact surface, check the material line on the listing before buying.
- plastic body and lid
- silicone seal

Sistema Brilliance Food Container 920ml
Sistema · Kitchenware
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
The Sistema Brilliance uses Tritan copolyester for the body — while Tritan is more stable than PP, it is still a plastic polymer. Food directly contacts the Tritan surfaces during storage. For a microplastic-free food storage option, consider glass containers like Pyrex or stainless steel lunch boxes.
- Tritan body
- polypropylene lid
- silicone seal

LifeStraw Home 7-Cup Water Filter Pitcher
LifeStraw · Water Filters
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
Assessed on what the filter is made from, not on what it removes.
Based on available material data, the pitcher LifeStraw describes as "BPA Free FDA-Food Grade compliant plastic" is the surface your filtered water sits against, so it carries our plastic rating. LifeStraw answers a question on its own product page by naming that plastic as SMMA, and says the filter housings use it too. The filtration itself is the strongest in the jug format: a 0.2 micron membrane microfilter, which LifeStraw states removes 99.999% of microplastics.
- BPA-free food-grade plastic pitcher
- SMMA pitcher and filter housings
- 0.2 micron membrane microfilter
- activated carbon and ion-exchange filter

LifeStraw Home 7-Cup Glass Pitcher
LifeStraw · Water Filters
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
Assessed on what the filter is made from, not on what it removes.
Based on available material data, the carafe is hand-blown borosilicate glass on a silicone base — but water reaches it by standing in a plastic reservoir and draining through plastic filter housings, and LifeStraw describes "BPA-free components" made from "durable plastic materials". The water dwells against that plastic for the whole cycle, so the rating follows it rather than the glass. Filtration is the same 0.2 micron membrane, WQA certified to remove 99.999% of microplastics.
- hand-blown borosilicate glass carafe
- silicone base
- plastic upper reservoir and lid
- SMMA filter housings
- 0.2 micron membrane microfilter

ZeroWater 2.8L 5-Stage Water Filter Jug
ZeroWater · Water Filters
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
Assessed on what the filter is made from, not on what it removes.
Based on available material data, ZeroWater states that "Culligan ZeroWater devices are made of BPA Free Polypropylene and ABS" and that the cartridges themselves are BPA-free polypropylene, so the jug rates on that plastic. Worth knowing before you buy it for microplastics specifically: ZeroWater publishes no pore-size rating for this filter and makes no microplastic removal claim. Its five stages are certified by IAPMO for PFOA/PFOS, lead, chlorine, chromium and mercury.
- BPA-free polypropylene
- ABS
- granulated activated carbon
- ion-exchange resin

BRITA Marella 2.4L Water Filter Jug
BRITA · Water Filters
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
Assessed on what the filter is made from, not on what it removes.
Based on available material data, BRITA describes the Marella as using "bio-based plastic" certified to the ISCC PLUS label, and says the MAXTRA PRO cartridge lid and housing are "50% bio-based materials". Bio-based describes where the feedstock came from, not what the polymer is, and the drinking surface is still plastic. On microplastics, the honest position is BRITA's own: it publishes no pore-size rating and makes no microplastic removal claim for this cartridge anywhere on its UK site.
- ISCC PLUS certified bio-based plastic
- MAXTRA PRO cartridge with bio-based lid and housing
- coconut-shell microcarbon
- ion-exchange resin

TAPP Water EcoPro Tap Water Filter
TAPP Water · Water Filters
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
Assessed on what the filter is made from, not on what it removes.
Based on available material data, TAPP Water states the device "is made out of recyclable ABS" and that the refill casing is "Food-grade FDA approved ABS plastic", so filtered water leaves the tap through a plastic housing. TAPP's compostability language applies to the carbon block, not the shell. Filtration is genuinely fine for a tap-mounted unit — a carbon block "compressed to 1-2 microns" that TAPP says removes particles larger than that, microplastics included.
- recyclable ABS body
- food-grade ABS refill casing
- coconut-shell activated carbon block
- polypropylene mesh

Waterdrop G3P800 Reverse Osmosis System
Waterdrop · Water Filters
Concern identifiedA synthetic polymer appears in the contact surface or ingredients.
Assessed on what the filter is made from, not on what it removes.
Based on available material data, the only wetted materials Waterdrop publishes for this system are its PE tubing runs; the housing polymer is not disclosed, and the water reaches your glass through plastic either way. That is the trade-off with reverse osmosis, because at the time of writing nothing else filters as finely — a 0.0001 micron membrane, orders of magnitude below any plastic particle yet measured. Waterdrop itself makes no microplastic claim for it.
- PE tubing
- housing polymer not disclosed
- 0.0001 micron RO membrane
- carbon block stages
No personal care product we have assessed carries this verdict.
