Microplastic Status
A synthetic polymer either forms the surface of BRITA Marella 2.4L Water Filter Jug that meets your food, drink or skin, or appears on its published ingredient list. Materials include ISCC PLUS certified bio-based plastic, MAXTRA PRO cartridge with bio-based lid and housing, coconut-shell microcarbon, ion-exchange resin. Consider switching to a lower-concern alternative in this category.
How we assess products
We work from published information; we do not lab-test, and a verdict here is never a claim that we have.
Credible evidence identifies a particle source or release pathway. This describes concern within our scope, not a proven health effect.
About This Product
Based on available material data, BRITA describes the Marella as using "bio-based plastic" certified to the ISCC PLUS label, and says the MAXTRA PRO cartridge lid and housing are "50% bio-based materials". Bio-based describes where the feedstock came from, not what the polymer is, and the drinking surface is still plastic. On microplastics, the honest position is BRITA's own: it publishes no pore-size rating and makes no microplastic removal claim for this cartridge anywhere on its UK site.
