Microplastic Status
A synthetic polymer either forms the surface of LifeStraw Home 7-Cup Water Filter Pitcher that meets your food, drink or skin, or appears on its published ingredient list. Materials include BPA-free food-grade plastic pitcher, SMMA pitcher and filter housings, 0.2 micron membrane microfilter, activated carbon and ion-exchange filter. Consider switching to a lower-concern alternative in this category.
How we assess products
We work from published information; we do not lab-test, and a verdict here is never a claim that we have.
Credible evidence identifies a particle source or release pathway. This describes concern within our scope, not a proven health effect.
About This Product
Based on available material data, the pitcher LifeStraw describes as "BPA Free FDA-Food Grade compliant plastic" is the surface your filtered water sits against, so it carries our plastic rating. LifeStraw answers a question on its own product page by naming that plastic as SMMA, and says the filter housings use it too. The filtration itself is the strongest in the jug format: a 0.2 micron membrane microfilter, which LifeStraw states removes 99.999% of microplastics.
