How we assess products
We work from published information; we do not lab-test, and a verdict here is never a claim that we have.
Low concern means the published materials we assessed show no known microplastic ingredient and no material microplastic concern. It does not mean:
- Not proof that no microplastic or nanoplastic particles are present or released — analytical methods have lower size limits, and nanoplastics largely escape detection.
- Not elimination of background exposure, which indoor dust and diet may dominate anyway.
- Not proven health safety — current science cannot substantiate that for any product.
- Not a general environmental or sustainability endorsement.
About This Product
Based on available material data, the Zeal Classic spatula spoon is silicone throughout its working surface, with a cured food-grade silicone head over an encased nylon core that does not reach the food. Cured silicone is a crosslinked elastomer rather than a thermoplastic and does not shed microplastic fragments the way conventional plastics do. It can release siloxanes when hot, but those are a separate question from microplastics. Replace it once it turns sticky or cracks.
